im thinking that was what happened to me a couple times. if it happens again for me then i get a free new computer. >=D stupid five year warranty.. >.< this one sucks balls.

anyways what happened to me was the hard drive got corrupted and the computer couldnt read anything on it to boot it up. when a file is corrupted its like impossible to get rid of it. so what they had to do to fix it is to get a new hard drive basically. then u lose all ur stuff. thats why i dont really save too many valuable things on this pos. i keep it on my external hard drive be-otch.

i recommend getting one.

you could just plug in the old HDD into an external HDD case if the OS is corrupted to pull the files off of it.

if the HDD is corrupted then you're screwed

um.. that's exactly why u save everything to facebook drafts, so u can access it from any computer? if she was working on it for a year and had no way of accessing any of it except from her laptop she must not be very smart ^^

Normally theres two type of corruption (Soft and Hard). Soft corruption is anything to do with your programs or Operating System and is the better of the two to have. A hard corruption is a hardware failure (Mothrboard, processor or hard drive) and if its your hard drive that corrupts, then trying to get data off of it it very, very tedious and alot of times impossible without having to send it out to a data retrieval company. If your OS gets corrupted and unable to start theres a few things you can try to see if you can repair it (chkdsk scan, boot of the WIndows CD and run a repair), but if not you can like that eafd says to slave it to another drive then back it up and reformat and reinstall the OS..Your OS can get corrupted by either a virus attack, bad program update, corrupt system drivers or even a bad sector on the hard drive.

Yes, you guys might want to look at some type of Internet backup..I use this one called Dropbox.

It a nice free program that you can download the client and install it on your desktop. It'll give you 2GB of free space and you use the client to upload and sync your files through it. Another one is offer 25GB free from Microsoft SkyDrive, if you have a Hotmail account you already can signup and activate your account.
