Screw my awesome computer ~~~ -0-0-7-
I play on a Macbook, running bootcamp, which runs windows, with which I play CA on. And since I had to partition my drive it's not exactly easy to conserve space. And I can't let it run too close to no bytes left or else it'll give me a warning and do stupid things, basically. I use CCleaner which works very well to clean out my files and give me about 300 MB of room on an average day.
Well recently I've had major ass lag so I went and updated my drivers which was like.. 300 MB. (that's how I get to 300 free) so I dropped a lot of space. Anyways long story short I was sick and tired of getting warnings and having to free memory up like a mofo (and trust me I run on bare minimums as it is so don't say oh just delete some spare files) so I deleted Combat Arms in hope to reinstall it. I did this because as the patches go through and time goes on it gathers file size, I think..... Cause when I started it and installed it for the first time it was like 2 gigs and today it said it was fricken 4. BS. SO I deleted it and wanted to install it again because I figured it'd clear some room. SO I'm going along nicely installing and it quits and gives me this error about memory space. I check my C drive and I have over a gig left. It stopped in the middle of the install and tells me I don't enough memory or whatever and says like try again later.
So my point is, anybody have any bright ideas for right now, because what I'm going to have to do is go back on Mac and re f^^^ing partition my dam drives again which is a NIGHTMARE and pirate some effing windows and mess around with all that JUNK because I'm running out of room. Can you believe I partition 18 gigs for the sole purpouse of running this game, and that's not even enough with all the windows crap installed. God this drives me insane.
I won't probably be on until the weekend on next week at the latest because unless you guys can recommend something or help me with this error (I think the code is 61? don't quote me on that. but it said lack of memory) and actually install it even though I know I have enough space, I'll have to delete windows then install it again. Joyful. fmlfmlfmlfmlfmlfmlfmlfmlfmlfmlfmlfmlfmlfml.
Let me know if you can think of anything. UUUUUUGH.

Umm..I know that even tho CA takes say 4GB after an install, it really needs like 6GB to do the downloads and setup, cause if just the install is a couple gigs then it still needs to decompress files and stuff...
Have you tried to defrag your windows? It might be that you have enough space, but maybe not enough "contiguous" space..meaning even tho u have 1 gig of free space, its not a large open area free space, but small fragmented spaces all around the drive. So the program might be having a problem getting files to install properly.
Windows built-in defrag is okay to use for defraging your hard drive, BUT you need a program like PerfectDisk from Raxco to defrag your contiguous space, I think the trial version will work, not sure tho, no hurt in downloading it and trying it out... Windows built-in defrag program does not do it. Also, you can free up space by turning off Windows Restore (as long as you dont think you'll be using it) to free up space also. What my son did was use an external drive and install his working programs on there. So you know how during the installation of a program it'll ask where you want to install the program to? (normally defualts to "C:\Program Files\Combat Arms\) he just pointed it to the external hard drive (G:\Combat Arms\) and it installed it there.. So if you have an external drive, you could try that option also, just install CA on the external hard drive...

Here is a solution. It maybe expensive but it gets the job done right. BUY A NEW GOD DAMN COMPUTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yeah, told you it was expensive. My current PC is starting to give me problems as well, and I'm that close to going insane. I have already told my dad that I want a new PC. IDK how that will turn out.

his problem is that he's running out of space. that doesnt mean that it's breaking on him. an external hard drive would be easier and a lot cheaper and would save a lot of time.

do you have space on your mac partition?
if you still have plenty of space there, go to the bootcamp app in mac and increase your windows partition. you may need to reinstall, but i recommend at least 30GB for windows. i bootcamp my 2007 imac with 50 gigs of space and it's barely enough.

Or...you could get some cheap, used PC...format/partition it, install Windows, say "Screw Mac's and OS's", and live in peace....

Re: Screw my awesome computer ~~~ -0-0-7-
LOL. I defragged it (using windows although I'm sure it doesn't matter) and it gave me LESS room when I started. Lost about 300 megabytes. I'm pretty sure the opposite is the desired outcome. FML.
So.. does anybody know (who runs bootcamp) if I can go and just partition off more space without reinstalling and deleting the whole windows thing like can I just add space?
The sad thing is I'm running out of space on my Mac drive too. Ugh I need that extra drive but they're like a hundred bucks aren't they?

007,
That's wacked that you loss 300mb??!!! I think its impossible to repartition without reinstalling everything..Did you look at turning off the Windows System restore? Also, look at disabling your Hibernation option in the Control Panel, under the Power Options..
Here are some articles on deleting the hibernation file..

and this one..
http://pcwizkid.blogspot.com/2008/06/free-up-disk-space-in-windows.html
On Newegg they have external drives for like 40 bucks...sorry, but its starting to look like that's your last option...

Re: Screw my awesome computer ~~~ -0-0-7-
After starting today's fun with 3.7 gigs free I tried to install again a different way from their site. Anyways it was going well and of course I get the error saying I have no free space. -61
Now AFTER deleting all their files left behind (well all that I know of..) after their fail installation I have 2.6 gigs left. Something is going horribly wrong.
HELP

here is a solution. Don't use bootcamp! Use virtual box instead.
Learn more about virtual box.

virtual graphics adapters usually have very bad 3d performance...
and considering he's using a macbook, graphics performance was bad to start with
he probably has a 2008-early 2009 MB, which would either have an nvidia 9400m (bottom third class), or GMA X3100M (mid class 5)...

Re: Screw my awesome computer ~~~ -0-0-7-
John - I'll be trying that next. I've had enough.
I repartitioned it into just Mac now. So I try to partition some windows.. It tells me basically go f*ck yourself and reinstall Mac OS then try again.
It won't let me partition cause I need to use Disk Utility to make it better and then try again. No thanks. Forget it. I tried Parallel's or whatever and it was slow and I couldn't figure it out so hopefully Virtual Box or whatever will work. I would sure love to not reboot everytime I wanna play CA. PLEASE WORK.
God. I love Macs but for some reason it's being a little girl this week.

really, don't use virtualbox, or any virtual machines for gaming.
3d performance will SUCK.
you might get 10 fps if you're lucky

Re: Screw my awesome computer ~~~ -0-0-7-
That's okay. After spending like 2 hours screwing with VB I got it installed and everything and I try to load it and it won't run. It says like something about Caps error.
Don't know what that is. F*ck.
Any suggestions about my partitioning problem because right now I'm going to delete VB and all that and try partitioning again. Why doesn't this want to work damit..
