Thats cool!
A little history on Hawaiian Food Culture..
ALOT of our food here in Hawaii is a mixture of Hawaiian, Chinese, Japanese, filipino and Portuguese as well as Europe. Hawaii has one of the most diverse and expansive cultural food selection from most places in the world, I think there's no other place were you can find so much different ethnic types of food in one state (In the military, I have been around the world and have never ran into the same variety as what we have here)..So when we have parties and whatevers, we always have a wide variety of food from these main areas. Because Hawaii has/had a large and wide immigrants population that came to work in the pineapple and sugar cane fileds here in the late 1800's till today the similation of thier culture into the Hawaiian culture was inevitable and so our food selection is so big to choose from.
Steamed Fish, Teriyaki beef and rice --- Japan
Fried Won Ton, Chi-Siu Baau (Manapua or steamed barbecue pork dumplings) -- China
Lau Lau, Kalua Pig and Lomi Salmon - Hawaiian
Portuguees Bean soup and Portuguess sweet bread - Portugal
Pork Adobo, Pancit and Pork and Peas -- Filipino
Thats why in Hawaii, FOOD is our biggest enjoyment, BUT also out greatest health problem...
