That doesn't make the episode not sad...even if you know she's gonna be back. And characters can be placed in the OP for many reasons they don't necessarily have to live :3 especially if this anime turns out to be 12 eps long. Just to emphasize Kirito's strength to live through all those different characters

K bro. She's just some random girl who happens to "Fall in love with him" and just gets killed off. I know they are trying to emphasize how easy it is to die in the game, but do they have to go that far? that's just not good story telling. And if you want to watch something sad watch Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai. Anohana for short.
